The Piceno hinterland
Choosing to spend a holiday in San Benedetto del Tronto does not only mean sea and relaxation. The southernmost tip of the Marches coastline also provides an excellent starting point for numerous trips to discover the history, nature and culture of the Piceno district: a region steeped in ancient tradition, from Roman and medieval times, generously preserving its gems of architecture and the natural beauty of its countryside. Daily excursions are ideal for delving into the exquisite little hamlets dotting the Marches hillside, passing by elegant squares and theatres to reach the breathtaking landscape panoramas of the Apennines.
- Ascoli Piceno, the city of a hundred towers, with its famous square, the Piazza del Popolo
- The nature trips in the Monti Sibillini National Park
- The medieval hamlets of Offida, Ripatransone and Acquaviva Picena
Travelling through the food and wine traditions of these places, famous for their wines (red wines, such as Rosso Piceno, and equally white wines, like Passerina and Pecorino from the vineyards of Offida) and for the traditional cuisine recipes (impossible to forget the Olive all’Ascolana): a journey through the Piceno countryside, its gentle slopes reaching down to the sea, to discover the culture, tastes and traditions to which this region is so proudly linked.
